Galloway Waste Mangement

organic and food waste

  • Organic waste is placed in a 120 L bin at the source for collection
  • The bin is then collected in a closed metal bin with a hooklift truck to ensure safe transfer to Earthpower which is an Organic Waste Recycling plant in Camellia, our partner.

How organic waste is converted into green energy…

  Organic Waste Recycling Plant
where organic waste is sent after collection

The anaerobic digestion technology utilised in the Organic Waste Recycling Plant where organic waste is sent after collection was developed and proven commercially overseas. It has been modified and adapted with local innovations to enable the project to stand-alone commercially and fit the Australian standards.

This facility can process a wide range of food and putrescible organic wastes from the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors. In addition, the facility is designed with a front end processing capability of removing up to 25% by weight of light and heavy contamination, such as metals, glass, grits, stone and plastics.

The biogas fuels internal combustion engines driving electrical generators. The electricity is delivered to the grid. Waste heat from engines is used for fertiliser drying.

Anaerobic digesters convert solid and liquid biomass wastes by using bacteria operating in an environment without the presence of oxygen to produce combustible gas (biogas) similar to natural gas and a liquid effluent stream containing solids (raw fertiliser) which is used as a fertiliser.

The breakdown of organic material involves a number of biological steps, each step involving a well-defined class of bacteria which absorb energy for their survival from gradually decomposing biomass which is finally converted to water, carbon dioxide and methane.

The bodies of exhausted bacteria, mixed with organics more difficult to digest such as woody materials, constitute the residual digested fertiliser sludge.

Organic waste recycling for business

By the simple process of encouraging large businesses and hotels that generate large organic waste volumes to '"source separate" we reduce the impact of organic waste going to landfill. Galloway works closely with our business partners and alliances to ensure that all organic waste is collected and transferred to a processing plant where it is converted into green renewable energy - methane. This method of recycling is endorsed by the DECCW and complies with Australian standards.

Galloway has waste management solutions available for organic waste recycling.
