Business Recycling Program - Media Centre Office
Sydney

A typical example of a Recycling program in an office environment. After conducting a waste audit involving the facilities manager of the business and a member of Galloway EWM we identified how much waste could be recovered on site.

A detailed waste management plan looking at the waste generating behaviours of the business was compiled and implemented with careful consideration regarding the following factors.

  • Types of waste being generated by staff in different areas of the business and their Accountabilities.

- General Waste
- Mixed or Commingle Waste
- Office ( Paper/cardboard ,Toner cartridges )

  • The relationship with contractors and cleaners to assist with the waste management process
  • Service and Delivery schedules
  • Through the education and involvement of all staff and contractors, and the separation of waste on site we achieved immediate results.

The Media centre

By placing under desk boxes or trays at each desk, each team member is able to account for their contribution.
On site presentations at the Media centre presented further tools for all staff to engage this program and provided great incentives for consistent recycling best practices

The unique GEWM advantage is that ALL recycling can be combined in the one under-desk box and any residual food waste is encouraged to be placed in a separate bin within a communal area, away from where the individual is seated, but in close proximity.

Mixed Recycling Boxes can include:
Letterhead & Forms
Brochures
Cardboard
Computer Printouts
Note Paper
Envelopes (Windowed included)
Manilla Folders
Newspaper/Magazines
Paper Binders/Dividers
Phone Books
Aluminium Cans
Steel Cans
Plastic Containers
Plastic Bottles
Milk Bottles (Plastic)
Glass Bottles

Mixed Recycling Boxes cannot include:
Adhesive Labels
Cellophane
Organic Material
Foil
Polystyrene
Rubber Bands
Adhesive Tape

1. Initial Segregation –
Utilizing a central bin station, all employees have an ability to conduct their own initial pre-sort to ensure maximum recovery. This area is typically where a central fax / photocopy / printer room and or kitchen / lunchroom are located.
Utilizing large and coloured signage throughout the system allows quick recognition and appropriate segregation to occur both on bins themselves but also above the bins with posters as depicted in the photograph below.

2. Transfer for Collection –
Once an under desk Mixed Recycling Box is full the Contracted Cleaner will collect the box, empty the box into a clear plastic bag (or directly into a larger bin) and deposit the bag into the larger receptacle for location to a central area (loading dock) for collection by GEWM.

3. Post Collection –
Galloway Environmental Waste Management are the only licensed facility in Metropolitan Sydney with the ability to conduct a post collection segregation of Commercial Office Waste in garbage bags. The Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) is an automated recycling plant with the ability to open bags prior to the waste segregation beginning.
Galloway EWM have undertaken a major investment in infrastructure which ensures Galloway EWM can support our commitment to Resource Recovery and reducing recycling waste being placed in Landfill.

The added benefit is that the savings from this will be compounded over the future years as a high percentage of waste will be diverted from landfill.

Galloway EWM is committed to this program of resource recovery of all types of recycling material and will be the Waste Industry Leader in Resource Recovery.

Galloway EWM is proud of achieving up to 90% diversion rates from landfill  through resource recovery recycling programs.
